UGC unboxing

A creator excitedly opening/unpacking the product.

A creator opening a sealed delivery box on camera and reacting to what is inside. The tension is entirely in the packaging: it starts closed, it gets opened once, and the product carries the rest of the ad.

What it looks like

When to use it

Best for a physical product with packaging worth seeing, and for anything sold on the arrival experience — subscription boxes, gifting, premium DTC. It is a poor fit for software, services, or anything that does not physically ship.

The beat structure

Sealed box, product not visible. The reveal, at peak surprise. The product alone as hero, close in the hands. The creator settled with it, warm and confident.

The thing to get right

The box is one-way. It is sealed in the first beat, half out of frame by the second, and gone for the rest of the ad — a box that reappears intact is the single most common way this format falls apart.

The format at a glance

  • Output — a video ad.
  • Structure — 4 beats, each one a separately planned shot.
  • Family — Creator & UGC video.
  • Recipe id — ugc_unboxing, which is what you name when you ask for it by hand or from an agent.

Can the product be visible before the box is opened?

No. Withholding it is the whole arc, and a product already on screen in the first beat leaves nothing for the opening to reveal. If you want the product in shot from the start, a product hero or a demo does that job better.

Formats built around a person on camera — the talking-head, the unboxing, the try-on, the demo. These are the highest-volume paid-social formats on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, and the ones where realism matters more than polish.

  • UGC tutorial / demo — a creator demonstrating how the product works, step by step
  • UGC talking-head — a real creator reviewing/recommending the product straight to camera (TikTok/Reels)
  • UGC try-on / haul — a creator receiving, trying on or using the product (fashion/beauty/lifestyle)
  • Green-screen reaction — a creator green-screen composited over a full-bleed on-screen element (a review/article/product screenshot) they point at and react to — hook-first talking-head
  • UGC product hero — UGC where the PRODUCT is the sole focal hero — close, tactile, hands-on (little/no creator face)
  • Transformation — a before→after video transformation — space, skin, hair or outfit — with the reveal as the payoff beat

Models that render it

This format is rendered by a video model. The plan picks one unless you name it, and Seedance 2.5 is the default pick. You can ask for another by name, such as Veo 3.1, Veo 3.1 Fast or Kling 3.0. All three render native sound, so a voice comes out of the same take as the picture. The video models page compares every option.

Hermoso plans and renders an ugc unboxing from your brand rather than from a prompt you write, composites every on-screen word after the render so the copy comes out exact, and exposes the same format to an AI agent over MCP. How Hermoso renders a format covers all three.
