Turn a long video into clips
Paste a YouTube, Vimeo or Loom link, or a link to the video file. You can also upload it in the app.

The best thirty seconds of a long video are usually buried somewhere in the middle of it. Finding them, cutting them, turning them vertical and adding subtitles takes an editor an afternoon per episode. Hermoso's clip maker listens to the whole video, picks the moments that stand on their own, cuts each one, reframes it for a phone and burns in subtitles. The clips come back ranked, best first, each with a title and a caption you can post with it.
How do I turn a long video into short clips?
- Bring the video. Paste a YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Dailymotion, Wistia, Twitch or TED link, a TikTok, Reel, Facebook or X post, or a link to the video file. You can also upload it.
- Say how many clips. Anywhere from 2 to 8.
- Pick the size. 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, 1:1 or 4:5 for feeds, 16:9, or keep the original shape.
- Keep subtitles on, or turn them off. On burns the spoken words onto every clip. The app shows the price before anything runs; a longer video costs a little more.
Which videos work best?
Videos where people talk: podcasts, interviews, talks, webinars, live streams, courses and long YouTube videos. The clips are chosen from what is said, so a video with no speech has little to choose from. The video should be at least about 15 seconds long, and with a very long one only about the first 40 minutes are used; the app tells you when that happens.
What do I get back?
- short clips, each one a moment that makes sense without the rest of the video
- each one reframed to the size you picked, so the speaker stays in the picture
- subtitles burned in, timed to the speech
- a title and a ready-to-post caption for every clip
- the clips in order, best first
What if a YouTube link does not work?
Some sites, YouTube most often, sometimes refuse to hand a video to a server. If that happens, download the video and upload the file instead, and the clips are made the same way.
Then post them
The clips land in your Hermoso library. From there you can post or schedule them to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and the rest of your channels, or make a cover for each one.
Can I make clips from ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. Connect the Hermoso MCP and ask your assistant to clip a long video. It runs through the clip_video tool, and the same assistant can schedule the clips to your channels.
